Broadly speaking, artificial intelligence is any task performed by a program or a machine that requires human intelligence. AI systems will demonstrate at least one of the following behaviours: planning, learning, reasoning, problem solving, knowledge representation, perception, motion, and manipulation, social intelligence and creativity.
Why use Artificial Intelligence?
AI is commonly used today at a basic level for everything from recommending what you should buy next online, to understanding what you say to virtual assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri, to detecting credit card fraud. The business implications are huge in terms of cost and time savings, while it raises profound philosophical questions around the very nature of work and ‘use’ in society. In short, only time will tell.
