Zalando is an online fashion retailer with more than 500,000 products from 2,500 international brands in 17 countries. Since its launch in 2008, the company has grown rapidly — reporting more than 31 million active customers and 960 million site visits in 2019. As data needs grew with each new customer and brand, Zalando turned to Exasol for a database solution that could integrate into its data warehouse as an analytic layer and connect seamlessly to existing BI tools.
To streamline transactions with merchants and logistic companies, Zalando needed consistent reporting on products, orders, customers, and deliveries.
Zalando integrated Exasol into its existing data warehouse and front-end BI tools as an analytic layer. Its in-memory system now consists of several clusters with 7TBs of memory. Low administration overhead, security, and a good price-performance ratio were also critical.
“We looked for a database that could be integrated into our data warehouse as an analytic layer. It was important that the solution offered a good price-performance ratio [without] a lot of administration overhead.”
