Announcing EXASOL V6: EXASOL adds support for data virtualization and data integration so businesses can analyze data more easily and faster than ever before

Combination of data virtualization, integration of data from a wide variety of sources, more programming languages and high performance Loading...in-memory analytics means that EXASOL now offers data-driven businesses a unique competitive advantage.

Nuremberg, Germany, 13 October 2016: From today, businesses that want to benefit from high performance analytics on data from a wide variety of data sources using any programming language can now do so with the release of EXASOL V6, the next generation high performance in-memory analytic database solution.

With support for the concept of the Loading...logical data warehouse, EXASOL V6 includes a data virtualization framework called “virtual schemas” as well as a high performance data integration framework, which allows companies to deploy the database into any heterogeneous infrastructure. The company has placed particular focus on Loading...Hadoop-based storage systems, making the data resident in these systems now available for high performance data analytics within the EXASOL database. Both frameworks can be customized by users in line with their own specific requirements and offer a high level of flexibility so that businesses can connect to and analyze data faster than ever before.

Furthermore, the new version of the database includes support for a wide variety of programming languages. Users can deploy their own language and run it in the database, making use of EXASOL’s Loading...in-database analytics abilities in their own way. This is a unique feature among databases on the market today. Additionally, version 6.0 contains many, in part dramatic, performance improvements.

“With the new features of EXASOL V6, data-driven organizations now have access to a database that delivers comprehensive and business-critical Loading...real-time analytics – more easily and with more performance than ever before,” explains Aaron Auld, CEO, EXASOL. “We have worked hard to add in support for faster and more transparent access to data, more data sources and Hadoop-based environments as well as give users the flexibility to use the analytic programming language of their choice. As a result, EXASOL is uniquely positioned in the market as the in-memory analytic database that lets businesses gain a significant competitive advantage, whatever the data source, whatever the programming language.”

Key features in EXASOL V6 include:

  • Data virtualization framework with virtual schemas
Users now have transparent access to data from various data sources and can analyze data without having to move full data volumes into EXASOL. Instead data is kept resident in source systems which avoids redundant data duplication, complex ETL jobs and means users always have access to the latest information.
  • High performance data integration framework
EXASOL V6 offers fast integration and adoption of data into any heterogeneous environment through support for more data sources than ever before. Through a common integration framework for virtualized data access and imports, users can easily implement and customize any data source adapter on demand and share them with other users via GitHub.
  • Increased support for Hadoop
Hadoop-based data stored in any HCatalog-supported native data format is now instantly available for analytics in EXASOL through the new data integration framework. Data access is fully parallelized for maximum throughput.
  • Pluggable language support
Alongside out-of-the-box support for R, Loading...Python, Loading...Java and Lua, EXASOL V6 offers a framework to integrate any analytical programming language, where users are no longer limited to using the languages that are provided by EXASOL. Users can now package up the programming language of their choice, deploy it to their instance of EXASOL and use it for in-database analytics.
  • Advanced automation
Now, administrators can completely automate almost all installation and configuration tasks through an easy-to-use API without manual intervention.
  • Improved connectivity
EXASOL V6 offers a JSON-based web socket API alongside current support for ODBC, JDBC und .NET. Through using the API, virtual every platform can be easily connected to EXASOL based on a simple wrapper-like driver or direct web socket connection. Also, a native lightweight Python driver based on this API has been included in EXASOL V6.
  • Increases in performance
EXASOL has always maintained a performance advantage, and now with a series of enhancements, the database just got even faster. Faster join, insert & delete, backup & recovery, cluster resizing – these are just a small list of the performance improvements users now get in EXASOL V6.
