What is R (programming language)?

R is a programming language and environment for statistical computing and graphics.

Why use R?

By providing a wide variety of statistical techniques (e.g. linear and non-linear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering), it is popular with statisticians and data miners for developing statistical software and for data analysis.

Did you know?

R is based on S, a statistical programming language originally developed in 1976 in Bell Labs – also the birthplace of the UNIX operating system and the C programming language.
