SEMIKRON chooses EXASOL to optimize its data management

More power and scalability thanks to the relational database EXASolution

Nuremberg, February 23, 2010 The internationally leading power semiconductor manufacturer SEMIKRON has chosen the powerful database solution EXASolution from EXASOL. SEMIKRON, which is headquartered in Nuremberg, employs around 2,900 people worldwide and is the leader in the field of diode/thyristor semiconductor modules, enjoying a 37% share of the worldwide market.

SEMIKRON is currently developing a new system to ensure storage and analysis of mass data from its locations throughout the world for a period of several years. The database solution EXASolution was chosen so that these requirements could be fulfilled with the highest possible performance.

EXASOL’s relational database stores the data by columns that can be loaded as and when needed. That speeds up queries significantly. The solution’s performance can be increased considerably compared with standard database systems thanks to its cluster architecture made up of multiple low-cost individual servers. Servers can be added to the cluster at any time. The resultant high performance and scalability of the system enable very rapid handling of analytical queries – even as the volume of data increases.

"We can optimize our business processes significantly with EXASolution. Enhanced data management and much quicker data analysis will help us adapt to the market’s high requirements," said Gerhard Zapf, project manager at SEMIKRON.
